With the growing population and impacts of climate change and human-induced activities to our upland resources (i.e. soil and water degradation and loss of biodiversity), the Department of Agriculture through the Bureau of Soils and Water Management promotes the implementation of soil and water conservation for upland resources development,
This land use is suitable to very good land that covers alluvial or upland plains and river terrace. These areas can be cultivated safely and only requires simple but good agricultural practices. The area is either irrigated or rain-fed and considered as prime agricultural land suitable for field crop production (i.e. rice, corn, tobacco, ginger, etc.).
These guidelines adopt the principles recommended by the World Overview of Conservation Approaches and Technologies (WOCAT). Therefore, most of the contents were based on the principles cited in “Sustainable Land Management: Guidelines and Best Practices in Sub-Saharan Africa, prepared by WOCAT in 2011 with certain modifications to suit the Philippine setting
